Our friend Andrew played young Roy in "Siegfried & Roy: The Magic Box." We're told Roy is a very nice man. We wish Roy a very speedy recovery. May he be back to scaring the bejesus out of Siberian tigers in no time.
John Kerry took a cheap shot at Wesley Clark at the DNC meeting . . .

"Now, let me say to you as we approach this campaign--this is not a commitment that I made in the last few weeks. This is not a commitment that I made in the last year or that I stumbled across in the course of this campaign. This has been a cause with me for a lifetime. For more than 40 years in the life of our politics--leading the struggle to end the war in Vietnam, standing up on the floor of the senate in 1985 and helping to defend a woman's right to choose in this country, speaking and taking the lead on the civil rights bill for all the citizens of this country long before it was popular, long before there'd been a television show or a march, and standing up and opposing George Bush's budget-busting, deficit-creating, special-interest coddling, loop-hole-creating, job-destroying tax cut of 2001 and saying “NO”.

My friends, I am proud that I stood against Richard Nixon, not with him. I know what it's like to be spied on by the government because that's what they did to me when I came back and stood up against the war.  And I'll tell you, the one thing we don't need in this country is an Attorney General who spies on Americans. And we will stop that . . . "

No surprise that "I've been doing this for thirty years (unlike that guy over there)" is going to be the line of attack against Clark. But is it really fair to criticize a guy who got shot three times in Vietnam for not coming home and throwing his medals away?

Salon.com: Nixon's lawyer on the CIA leak scandal:

"I thought I had seen political dirty tricks as foul as they could get, but I was wrong . . . "

A new study shows Fox News viewers have the most ignorant views of the war. PBS/NPR smarty-pants are the best-informed.

Study: Wrong impressions helped support Iraq war
By FRANK DAVIES
Knight Ridder Newspapers

WASHINGTON - A majority of Americans have held at least one of three mistaken impressions about the U.S.-led war in Iraq, according to a new study released Thursday, and those misperceptions contributed to much of the popular support for the war . . .

. . . The analysis released Thursday also correlated the misperceptions with the primary news source of the mistaken respondents. For example, 80 percent of those who said they relied on Fox News and 71 percent of those who said they relied on CBS believed at least one of the three misperceptions . . .

I know what I'm going to do for Hannukah this year -- I'm going to the Jewish Expo 2003 at the Javits Center, where the kids and I can take pictures inside a real bombed-out Israeli bus.

From the AP:

Bombed-out Israeli bus to go on display in New York

JERUSALEM - An Israeli disaster response group is shipping a bus destroyed in one of the deadliest Palestinian suicide bombings to a New York City fair, to be displayed alongside booths promoting Jewish culture and tourism to Israel . . .

Men's 'domestic day' infuriates women

By Elizabeth Nash in Madrid

The mayor of the village of Torredonjimeno in Andalusia is trying to strike an imaginative blow for women's rights by declaring that between 9pm and 2am every Thursday night the men of the village must stay at home to help with domestic chores . . .

Five men, all dressed like Ali G, who stole a video camera from a teenager in a park in Stroud, Gloucestershire, are being hunted by police.

Ann Coulter on Wesley Clark:

"Before Clark becomes the answer to a Trivial Pursuit question, consider that Clark's main claim to fame is that he played a pivotal role in what most of his supporters passionately believe was an illegal, immoral war of American imperialism in Vietnam. How does that earn you points with Democrats?"
Congratulations: Bush sets a new record for extending a national crisis, beating out FDR, Truman, and even his dad.
